Line-stops are a cost effective way to maintain, modify and repair systems without disrupting operations. The applications are almost endless. Some examples include replacement of a bad valve or insertion of a valve where one does not exist, repair of a ruptured or damaged main, building of a deflection or diversion above, around or below where the existing main traveled. The process begins much like performing a wet tap or hot tap. The fitting or fittings that are provided by Rangeline are installed on the main. A pressure test is performed and then a temporary valve is installed. The tap is then made, usually vertically; the coupon retrieved and the valve closed. Rangeline then installs a line-stopping ram. This piece of equipment based on application varies in size and design. A stopping head, either cylindrical rubber, bullet, pivot or mechanical folding head is then inserted into the opening or tap that was just performed. Then only the section of the main where the work is to be performed is relieved of pressure and drained. Contractor is then able to continue his scope of work safely without the existence of product or pressure. The stop or stops remain in place for whatever duration of time the contractor or application requires, usually for one working day. After the scope of work is completed, Rangeline is then allowed to remove the stop(s). Completing procedure is as follows, the head is removed from the main and the valve is closed. A completion plug is then inserted into the line-stop fitting. Our temporary valve is removed and a blind flange is bolted to the fitting. This allows for the protection of the completion plug for a future re-stop if the need arises.
